Boxing Defined

Boxing, which is also called prizefighting or sweet science, is a contest to test the skills between two people of similar weight attempting to hit each other with their glove-protected fists, at the same time trying to evade getting hit by their opponent in a series of one to three-minute interval called “rounds”.

Juan Manuel Marquez by Unanimous Decision

Juan Manuel Marquez (48-3-1) outpoints Ricardo “Rocky” Juarez (27-4) Saturday night en route to a unanimous decision, successfully defending his WBC super featherweight boxing title at the Desert Diamond Casino.

Throughout the fight, Marquez has been the aggressor. He kept Juarez at bay with his left hand during the early rounds and continues to dominate the later rounds with impressive right hand shots to the head of Juarez.

It was a difficult fight for Juarez as he was cut just above the left eye due to an accidental head-butt in the first round. It started some slow bleeding, but as the bout progressed, the blood became a problem as it is already blocking his vision.

After 12 rounds, judges scored the bout 118-110, 117-111, and 120-108 all in favor of Juan Manuel Marquez. With the victory, Marquez has his eyes all set on the Filipino whirlwind, Manny Pacquiao.

Meanwhile on the undercard, Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero successfully defended his IBF featherweight title, stopping Martin Honorio 56 seconds into the first round. Guerrero improved to 21-1-1 with his 13th knockout, while Honorio dropped to 24-4-1.
